CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. All instrumental or vocal items are to be the soloist’s or group’s own choice.
2. The music to be performed must be handed to the secretary at least 15 minutes prior to the advertised starting time of the relevant section. Where a contestant’s leader will be arriving later than the advertised starting time, arrangements must be made to deliver the music to the secretary before the day’s performance. Copyright arrangements are the responsibility of each contestant.
3. The maximum time allowed for each entrant is printed on the official schedule. Entrants should not exceed a time limit as printed. The adjudicator’s secretary will time each performance time. Three points will be deducted where an entrant exceeds the time limit. There is no minimum time.
4. All entrants will be judged on the following criteria: Technical skill & musicality to 60 points. Presentation and suitability of choice of piece(s) to 40 points. It is recommended for ensembles that more than one piece is chosen and that pieces are contrasting.
5. The adjudicator’s decision is final. The adjudicator reserves the right not to award any prizes in any section. The Committee will announce the top 3 point scorers on the night of the performance.
6. At the committee’s discretion, heats with first prizes may be held in any or all sections. In such cases, the finalists shall be determined from the top point scorers over the heats for that section, as advised at the commencement of the heat performances.
7. The secretary reserves the right to cancel any section where three or fewer contestants have been entered. If any section with three or fewer contestants is allowed to proceed, the prizes offered will be 50% of the amounts shown on the official schedule.
8. Solo vocalists are permitted to use amplified accompanying instruments or instruments which do not involve pre-recorded sound. Use of pre-recorded accompaniment will incur a penalty of not less than five points. The contestant’s voice must not be amplified. An official accompanist is provided at the organisers cost for Section 1, 12, 14 & 17 performances. However, prior rehearsal time is at the cost of the contestants. An accompanist reserves the right to refuse service to any contestant who has not had a prior rehearsal with that accompanist. The use of the official accompanists is optional.
9. Three electrical amplified instruments will be permitted in instrumental groups or bands with 11 or more players. In all cases, equipment, power connections and cords must be set up and removed by the performers. No restriction exists in Sections 20.
10. Conductors are not permitted to sing with their choirs. Adults are not permitted to accompany contestants in instrumental sections with the exception of secondary soloists. Only one adult accompanist is permitted for each entrant in a choir section.
11. All competitors must be attending a recognised state or private school and in all cases, members of contesting groups must be attending the same school.
12a. A vocalist can only perform once in each section, eg, One cannot perform in two or more groups in the same section.
12b. An instrumentalist may perform more than once in a section provided he/she uses a different class of instrument for each performance.
13. In Groups/Choirs/Orchestras/Bands etc. the number of performers on stage at any one time must not exceed the maximum specified for the section. Three points will be deducted where an entrant exceeds the maximum number of contestants permitted on stage.
14. The maximum age of a contestant at date of performance in Sections 14 to 25 must be 18 years.
15. Any protest must be lodged with the compere in writing before the adjudication is announced.
