CHIEF JUSTICE

Sir Matthew Hale is one of the famous forefathers of the local Campbell family line.
If you think things get tough, reflect back to the Black Plague of 1665, followed by the Great Fire of London in 1666.
From those adversities, Sir Matthew Hale who was Chief Justice of the Kings Bench of Charles 11 (1609 – 1676), created the first title deed conveyancing and registration system of deed, debt and easements.
He also created the abatement of tenant rent on termination of lease, when the landlord property was destroyed and/or unfit for use. These remain the basic platforms of the Queensland Property Law Act of today.
The right to own property is dear to us all.
The creed of Sir Matthew Hale was – “Every one should answer for his own act, or his own neglect.”
The vision of Sir Matthew allowed the creation of the Torrens system of freehold title, that some 450 years after his death, remains the cornerstone of property title confidence.
Confidence remains a major consideration in property purchase i.e. Flood, earthquake political stability etc. but crowd psychology is a new confidence trigger, and fuelled by events.
Collective behaviour is contagious. I’ve seen so many cycles of sales in streets that has started with one sale and within months, most of the street has sold.
That crowd psychology, what others can do, so can I.
Our political leaders of all colours use mass communication (the media) to induce collect behaviour that grows and spreads. With the media now being mass manipulation rather than objective reporting of the facts.
This Public Relations skill to create a combination of lapses in logic and replacing it with crowd mentality, goes a long way to explaining surges and falls in local property prices.
Traditionally the higher property sales volumes occur in summer but if the Broncos win, I can assure you the market responds positively to such “feel good events”.
Little did Sir Matthew Hale know that he and the Broncos would have so much in common – providing confidence to the Albany Creek and districts, property market.
