Kindy Celebrates

On 12th May, 1992 three ladies, Bobbie Elston, Jennie O’Neil and Helen Ferguson held the first meeting to discuss the building of a second ‘community’ kindergarten for the Albany Creek District. The initial concept was for a facility to the southern end of the Creek, around the Jinker Track.
Over a period of six months the meeting grew in size until a Public Meeting was held in October 1992 to obtain community support for the project. As community support was high, the committee pressed on in their endeavours to build this much needed ‘community’ facility. Many and varied fund raising activities were held to raise the finds to build the kindy and to prove the commitment of the committee towards the success of this project.
The land was donated to council by the developer over and above park allocation, as part of the subdivision approval process with Peter Campbell Realty instrumental, as the then land-marketing agents; for the former IRELAND car wrecking yards. Because of this commitment, they were able to secure a $30,000 grant from the Federal Governments.
In order to build the Kindy however, the committee needed to obtain loans and were fortunate enough to obtain an interest free loan from the Pine Rivers Shire Council, but this was not enough.
The committee needed a commercial loan, of $40,000 and approached local business people for assistance by way of becoming a guarantor for the loan. It was at this time that the local businessman Peter Campbell made himself available as the ONLY personal guarantor for the commercial loan, which enabled the building of the Kindy to commence in December 1993 and by April 1994, the first group of children were ready to attend the Centre.
Since that time the spirit of community on which the Kindy was based, has continued with around 700 children enjoying the facilities, which were made possible by the collaboration of local residents and local business.
Cr Graeme Ashworth was made a Life Member because every step of the way, from day one, he has been on side and up front with support.
At the 10th birthday celebration, the Eatons Hill Community Kindergarten gave special thank you to Mr. Peter Campbell for his contribution, which saw a dream become a reality for so many.

In both 2005 and 2007, the Kindy won the prestigious Albany Creek Garden Club Award, for best garden of an educational facility. Peter Campbell was again on hand in October 2007 to present the trophy and donate the $200 to Eatons Hill Kindy for excellence on behalf of the Albany Creek Garden Club.
