I have trouble with do it yourself, assembly. I tend to find that my grandchildren are better at it. I cannot live without the computer programmes that deliver the result, but I can't understand the ‘hardware’, ‘software’, burning CD’s and DVD’s, MP3 players etc.

It is the New Frontier stuff, and the development of ‘word’, playstation and the NASA space programme has come from the new, not the older, generation.

How soon we forget. In 1967, three astronauts dead on take-off. On January 28th 1986, seven died in the Challenger disaster.

These are the high profile pioneers of the new frontier with a hunger to explore the universe but in effect had their beginnings in the IT field.

I find the red planet fascinating.

What a pity the space exploits are taken for granted and the giant steps of the Mars “Spirit” exploration is widely unappreciated.

Believe it or not, in the great U.S, a real estate entrepreneur has sold off $4 million of titles of land on Mars at $499 each.

Each January 28th, stop and remember the Challenger and the Columbia and salute the 'new generation'.

All big things come from humble beginnings.
