Carnival

Thank you! 2006 Winter Carnival was a fabulous experience.

Since 1927, when Matt Campbell first attended Albany Creek State School, each decade my clan has been represented by a multi-cultural mix of extended families such as Campbell, Fredericks, Kutosovic, Williams, Sitaropolous, Bagnashi, Spethman, Blazak, etc.

Matt Campbell, comfortable in a wheelchair, commented positively upon attractions of dozens of dancing girls, slides, circus, cliff climbing, show bags, choirs, bands and trivia – all on the former bean patch of Tom Williams.

So our turn down memory lane turned to work out when the fete started. Certainly not in 1927, later than me in 1952, not in sister Diane’s time from 1957- so please help us and email me the answer. When was the first fete locally?

As Russell Patterson and Bevan Crooke both said in their speeches at the Student Art Exhibition (sponsored by Peter Campbell Realty) - it is more about community, cohesion and a sense of being (with a tidy profit on the side). Believe me - this community has more get-up-and-go than many I’m associated with. Those comments were echoed by both Rod Welford and Mike Charlton.

I (as principal sponsor) enjoyed presenting the trivia and musical program at Grayson Hall. What a great facility that in its short history has seen so much… from assembly to waltz at the bush dance.

The team of volunteers, teachers, cleaners, committees, students, entertainers and sponsors- gave us a great fun filled commercial operation that delivered in all ways, the goods. (Love the “Heaven on a Stick”).

Fortunately, sponsors have two years to get on the bandwagon to support the next fete - Ring me on 0418 774 663 and I’ll look for a spot for you, in 2008.

Matt Campbell (Student of 1927) was suitably impressed and ecstatic at the vocal presentation of Jordan Pollard (St Paul’s), overall winner of the 2006 Pine Rivers Music Youth of the Year competition.

What a thoughtful idea to pre-sell the bracelets for the circus and rides, to lessen the financial impact on families on the day (and creating a cash positive start to the day). What a great way for families to have a fun-filled inexpensive day of “quality time”.

So Nikki Ireland, thanks to your great, great grandpa for the petition that started the school back in 1874. Thanks to his inspiration that now allows Mr Pearce and his devotees to head an education facility that is second to none.

Again I want to show how proud I am of my community and say - Thank you.
