BUNYAVILLE FOREST
SINCE 1873

The Albany Creek lands to the south are a green belt, part of the Brisbane Forest Park, but originally established as a forestry reserve for cutting of timber for railway sleepers. This site for many years had a successful nursery operation selling tube stock to the local community (now closed), since 1977, and has provided educational training about the environment from the Bunyaville Environmental Centre (www.bunyavilleed.qld.edu.au)
For those big family picnic gatherings with a difference; for cycling and forest walks; why not just ask by phoning 3227 7800.

It’s a truly peaceful buffer between the encroaching suburbia of Brisbane wot the towering stands of spotted gum, ironbark, white mahogany and tallow wood providing a wildlife haven.

a) The various levels of parkland maintenance provide open space from pre-school friendly to natural bushland.
b) The centre continues to actively promote tree planning and bush care management. With the 25-year anniversary of the Albany Creek High School in 2007, Peter is campaigning to plant 2007 trees in the High School grounds and assist the State School (since 1874) to replicate the existing memorial trees on the Albany Creek Road Entrance.

Without the generous walking trails through our parklands (from River to Forest), the historic and grand Bunyaville State Forest and the commitment of the ongoing supporters of the Garden Club – Albany Creek is a far better place to live.
Thank you to Robert Martin Collins who saw the dream to create National Parks as opposed to Forestry Reserves and was the inspiration for Queensland’s first National Park of 47,000 acres established in 1915, now know as Laminton National Park.
Every tree counts – Use it or lose it.

September is judgement month for the Annual Garden Competition, again, with Peter Campbell Realty as the main sponsor. We have to go back to 1961, when Bert Cuthbert, Tom Simpson, Steve Leitch and Matt Campbell established the Albany Creek Progress Association that, in turn, ran the Garden Competition for decades. Still going strong under the auspices of the Albany Creek Garden Club, and Peter Campbell as patron maintains an unbroken record of support. (The Club meets monthly at the Uniting Church Hall.
