ANZAC DAY – DICKEY BEACH

Matt Campbell, as part of the 9th/49th Infantry – Morton Regiment, camped for two weeks, miles from everywhere, in the bush at Caloundra. With order of service attached to fixed bayonets, he and his army mates observed the Anzac Day Dawn Service with the support of the Brisbane Excelsior Band. “A moving experience”, says Matt.

Son, Peter, 65 years later, was one of the 2000 plus crowd of men, women and children that emerged from the dark of the highrise units to solemnly observe the 5.15am service. What a magnificent sunrise over the headland to complement the bugle, pipes, flags, ode and wreaths. An emotional experience.

For 2008, make a diary note for your family to attend.
