The Anzac tradition that began with a 600 plus contingent to the Boer War, has continued through countless conflicts, and April 25th is a celebration of the dedication of all service personnel.
Our local community includes many families from the Enoggera GALLIPOLI Barracks. Enoggera and Chermside were staging and training camps for World War 1. Post service people that I have met, remain modest of achievement and silent on war involvement.
Subsequently, the school children of today have an opportunity to observe April 25, as a National Day.
The 5 local schools are provided with colour cards of ‘The Ode’. One for each student, with the compliments of Peter Campbell Realty.
I believe that the concept of service to Country is of great importance in the ‘material’ world of the 21st Century. Our local Dawn Service is at Pinaroo Lawn Cemetery and is conducted by the Geebung Zillmere RSL.
See you there!
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against all odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
