INVESTORS AND
RENTERS
According
to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian Housing Survey, 1999 (AHS 1999)
the profile of Queensland renters in the private sector is summarized as follows:
- The private
rental sector contains more single parent and group households and less couples
than for all households of Queensland.
- Single parent
households accounted for 11.9% of private rental households compared with
6.3% of all households.
- Group households
account for 11.5% of private rental households and only 4.1% of all households.
- Couples only
represented 19.2% of households in private rentals and 26.3% of all households.
- Couples with
dependent children represented 20.8% of households in private rentals and
24.4% of all Queensland. In the local area, this proportion is in excess of
60%.
- Renters are
generally younger than the population as a whole. Based on the age of the
reference person surveyed, a total of 51.8% of people renting privately were
under 35 years.
- When buying
an investment property, Peter Campbell Realty can give you an accurate snapshot
of your tenant market, based upon 34 years of local experience.
- Renters spend
more on housing as a proportion of their income than is the case for all households.
Housing costs represent more than 30% of income for private renters compared
with 15.8% of all households.
Housing costs for
renters are lower in Queensland than for Australia with the median weekly private
rental housing costs being $149 (Queensland wide) compared with $155 for Australia.
Local rents tend to average around $300 per week.
Peter Campbell
Realty for more than 30 years has provided long and short term accommodation
to locals, with some tenants staying with the agency for 20 years plus and others
on 4-6 month stays while building. In fact, we still rent out our very first
rental appointment from 32 years ago in Keong Road. Our rental guarantee lessor
protection system, local experience and independent approach provide a good,
hassle free service. We need more rentals to meet the demand.
